MobSMS: send pDaftar reminders from your own SIM card on Android

When a customer gets a message from your number, they know right away who it is from, and replying is easy. That is what MobSMS does: your Android phone and the SIM card in it work as an SMS gateway for pDaftar. Messages go out at your carrier’s rate.

How MobSMS works

MobSMS is a separate Android app. It is installed on your phone and linked to pDaftar with an API key. When pDaftar needs to send a customer a reminder, the message lands on your phone and goes out through the SIM card as an ordinary SMS. The customer receives it from your number, not from 4546.

Because this works through your phone, the phone has to be switched on and connected to the internet. Delivery status comes back to pDaftar and shows up in the usual SMS history.

Why sending from your own number is handy

If your carrier gives you a cheap or unlimited SMS bundle, reminders go out of that bundle and you save your pDaftar SMS limit. The customer recognizes the number and can reply or call back. A message that comes from you rather than a short number also feels more trustworthy to the customer. For a small shop this is often the simplest route.

The service fee pDaftar charges depends on your plan; details are on the pricing page. What your carrier charges per SMS you know from your own tariff.

Once connected, nothing else changes: the reminder schedule, templates and customer settings work as before — only the message comes from a different number. The setting always shows the “Connected” mark and the sender number you picked.

  • The customer receives the message from your number
  • You use the SMS in your carrier’s bundle
  • Delivery status is visible in pDaftar

Connecting: “SMS gateway” in the settings

The setting is in the “SMS gateway” section of the “SMS settings” screen in the mobile app. Under the question “Which number do SMS come from?” there are two options: the default 4546 and “Free MobSMS (your own number)”. Choose MobSMS, connect your account and pick the number the SMS will go from. If you stay with the default, there is nothing to connect — everything keeps working as it does now.

To connect, first sign up at mobsms.cloud — the button in the app takes you straight to the site. Then install the MobSMS gateway app on your Android phone and copy the API key from it. The steps are shown in the app under “How to connect?”, and there is a video guide as well.

Things to keep in mind

If you have more than one SIM card, the “Sender number” list is where you choose exactly which number to send from. You can unlink the account at any time with “Disconnect account” — after that, messages go from 4546 again. This setting exists only in the mobile app, because the gateway is tied to your phone.

The gateway is chosen separately for each shop. You can send from your own number in one shop and from 4546 in another. If the phone stays switched off for a long time or the SIM card runs out of credit, messages will not get through — such cases show as “Failed” in the history, so glance at the history from time to time.

How to use it

  1. In the mobile app open “SMS settings” from your shop settings and go to the “SMS gateway” section.
  2. Choose “Free MobSMS (your own number)” and sign up via “Open mobsms.cloud”.
  3. Install the MobSMS gateway app on your Android phone and copy the API key from it.
  4. Paste the key into the “MobSMS API key (token)” field and tap “Connect”.
  5. Under “Sender number” pick the number the SMS will go from and tap “Save”.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate phone for MobSMS?

No, the Android phone you already use is enough. It just has to be switched on and connected to the internet, because the SMS go out from that phone.

Does MobSMS work on iPhone?

The MobSMS gateway app is Android-only. Even if you use pDaftar on an iPhone, you will need an Android phone as the gateway.

If I connect MobSMS, do messages stop coming from 4546?

Correct — for a shop where MobSMS is chosen as the gateway, reminders go from your number. Disconnect the account and sending returns to 4546.

How do I know the message reached the customer?

Delivery status comes back to pDaftar and is shown as usual in the history on the “SMS mailings” screen.
